Hokusai. In the footsteps of the Master on display in Rome at the Ara Pacis Museum from October 12, 2017 to January 14, 2018.

CONFIRMED EXHIBITION

Throughout 200 works the exhibition Tells and compares the production of the Master with that of some of the artists who have followed his footsteps, giving rise to new lines, shapes and color balance within the classical strings of the nuke.

Through about 200 works (100 for each rotation of the exhibition for conservative reasons linked to the fragility of polychrome silographs) coming from the Chiba City Museum of Art Important Japanese collections such as Sumisho Art Gallery, Uragami Mitsuru Collection and Kawasaki Isago no Sato Museum , as well as < The Museum of Oriental Art Edoardo Chiossone of Genoa , the show tells and compares the production of the Master with that of some of the artists who have followed his footsteps creating new lines , Shapes and color balance within the classical strings of the tukio.

Hokusai has explored subjects of every kind: from landscape to nature, animals and flowers, from the portrait of kabuki actors to the feminine and warrior actors, to ghost images and Spirits and beings and animals of the same age.

It was a experimenter that varied formats and techniques: from ink-and-paint on vertical and horizontal rolls, to polychrome silographs of any size for the big market, to the finest < I> surimon, used as greeting cards, invitations, event calendars, literary encounters, tea ceremonies, theater invitations.

The volumes of the Manga Hundreds of sketches and drawings drawn by the master and printed in black ink with a touch of light vermilion, represent the compendium of so eccentricity and genius made available to young artists and painters as models for every kind of subject. Among his students are Hokuba, Hokkei (1790-1850), Hokumei (1786-1868) who mark the next generation of artists, along with Keisai Eisen (1790-1848), a non-direct student of Hokusai, but who is Was influenced by the developments of the prints of female beauty and landscape of the years 1810-1830. Just to Eisen, presented in Italy for the first time in this exhibition, belongs to the beautiful and impressive figure of courtier represented in the silography that Van Gogh paints behind Père Tanguy and also used on the cover of the Paris Le Japon Illustré I> in 1887.
